Help us construct a new holding area for the African Lions. This renovation is a critical part of the Greenville Zoo’s participation in the African lion cooperative breeding program through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
The new holding facility, (rendering shown below), will be part of an exciting new entry experience into the African region of the zoo. It will include three den spaces interconnected with a fourth “family den”. The family den will include a large window allowing guests to view future cubs at a very early age. This special area allows the public a much earlier view of these precious animals in a safe environment.
The rear of the den space will provide the backdrop for an African Village-themed plaza that will immerse guests as they enter the African section of the Zoo. Guests will pass by a border crossing station that will double as housing for a banded mongoose exhibit. The plaza just beyond will host a climate-controlled public restroom complex, shaded seating areas and refreshment opportunities.
