[ARCHIVED] May 20, 2022: Students Meet Zoo Ambassador Animals

The Greenville Zoo presented a zoomobile program for Five Oaks Academy this past week. 60 students gathered in an outdoor amphitheater to meet the zoo’s ambassador animals including a boa constrictor and chinchilla as well as our native screech owl, and a box turtle. They learned about the basic and complex needs of animals as well as why conservation matters in Greenville, SC, and around the globe.

Red PandaThe Greenville Zoo received a Red Panda from The Erie Zoo this past Thursday. "Neo" is almost 2 years old and will serve as a companion to our female red panda, Ahsa. Red pandas are an endangered species which is why they are recommended for breeding at the Greenville Zoo. While it may be a while before both pandas reach maturity, the bonds that they create early on will encourage a higher probability of offspring from the pair in the future.

The Greenville Zoo’s admissions team was able to distribute 30,000 customized general admissions tickets to Prisma Health Care. This has been the largest single sale of tickets in the zoo’s history. The Greenville Zoo is excited to welcome Prisma Health and thanks them for all that they do for our community.

Beast FeastThe Greenville Zoo‘s distance-learning program has paired with Streamable Learning to present, ‘Beast Feast’. In this program, students virtually gathered from around the world to meet carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores up-close on screen. From animals who eat flowers to those who eat worms, the world is full of unique creature eaters.

Saturday Safari Night OwlThis month’s Saturday Safari theme was Night Owls. Students of this unique family program learned about the types of creatures who wake up when we are asleep and how nocturnal creatures survive in darkness. The ‘Saturday Safari’ program will return in the fall with a whole new collection of themes. To learn more about next year's themes and sign up for the Saturday Safari zoosletter email us at
