Kiden Update

Kiden Update

We know many of you have been asking, so we are excited to share an update on Kiden. Kiden left the Greenville Zoo on April 18th and made her journey cross country to the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon. After Kiden arrived in Oregon, she spent a few weeks acclimating before being introduced to her new group. Since that initial period, Kiden has met her new family, Buttercup and Desi, and everyone is getting along great! She is making herself at home and getting acquainted with her herd, as well as the Speke's gazelle, and southern ground hornbills that share the mixed-species exhibit. Leopard Cubs Explore the Exhibit

Leopard Cubs Explore the Exhibit

Sometimes the first step is the hardest part. That's a lesson our Amur leopard cubs learned this week as they ventured into their exhibit for the first time. It took some patience and some courage, but after a while, the cubs were exploring the exhibit with mom by their side. After their successful trip onto the exhibit this week, the cubs will begin to spend more and more time outside to get acquainted with their new home.

There are only 100 Amur leopards living in the wild, making it the rarest of the large cat species. The Greenville community has the unique opportunity to visit this special animal at the Greenville Zoo.  The Greenville Zoo Foundation recently received a grant from Greenville Women Giving to build a new leopard enclosure, ensuring we can continue to participate in the important Species Survival Plan for Amur leopards. Follow us on Facebook for more updates on the cubs and plan to visit them soon.

Meet the Keeper

Meet Zookeeper Sasha. Sasha has been at the Greenville Zoo for almost 3 years. She is in charge of the animals in the education department at the Zoo. This includes all of our animals who participate in education programs including, our parrots, alligators, prehensile tailed skinks, short tailed possum, kinkajou, and many more!

While we were with Sasha, she was busy getting Sunny, our sun conure ready for an education program. Next, she got weights on Ollie, an eclectus parrot, and Luna, our short tailed possum. We finished the visit with some training with Tigger, an African grey parrot.

Continue to follow us on social media as we get to meet all of the keepers at the Greenville Zoo.
